New Solar Installation to Power County Facilities
Lake County Courthouse Campus Going Solar
The Lake County Board of Supervisors approved a new solar installation in 2024 to serve the Courthouse Campus. This highly anticipated project will provide energy savings and include Electric Vehicle charging stations.

The Lake County Public Services Department, through its Capital Project division, is advancing two new solar and EV charging projects. A solar energy leader since 2007, with California’s largest County-owned array at the time, Lake County continues its commitment to clean energy and infrastructure upgrades.

We are excited the Courthouse solar project is currently under construction. This $2.3 million County-funded project is anticipated to offset $5.2 million of PG&E costs over the 25-year estimated life of the panels by installing approximately 444 kilowatts (kW) of carport solar panels at the District Attorney's office parking lot. The project will also include six Electric Vehicle charging stations for EV County Fleet Vehicles and infrastructure to easily add charging stations for an additional two dozen vehicles.

The second project, the Libraries Solar Project, is in the design phase. This $1.5 million project, funded through a State Library Facilities Improvement Grant, will provide approximately 127 kW of solar panels at the Lakeport Library, Middletown Library and Redbud Library in Clearlake. It is projected to offset $2.8 million in PG&E costs over 25 years. EV charging stations will also be installed at each Library Branch, expanding access to clean transportation options. In addition to powering County operations, these systems support employees and visitors through pay-per-use EV charging stations—laying the groundwork for a more sustainable, EV-ready future in Lake County.
By harnessing renewable energy, the County is promoting long-term savings, environmental stewardship, and energy independence for key public facilities. Many thanks to both the Capital Project and Facilities Maintenance teams in Public Services for consistently seeking to improve the efficiency of County facilities.
